I [CHOOSE] You!

Blue eyed, blonde beauty styling in a red shirt and dark blue skirt for her uniform, she was always the kid who was skipped over. She walked with pride, always smiling as if she had the best day of her life. When it came to sports, she wasn’t the next Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan. She had other qualities to offer the world. Kind and patient, she knew that one day someone would choose her.

It took years and years to pass by until she was chosen. The best day happened when she walked into work, ready to tackle the day and secretly waiting to jump back into bed. I am that girl: the chosen one. Four girls and two boys chose me. They were playing a game that they made up about super heroes. I was overjoyed to be chosen, so I naturally decided to join in on the game. I was a mermaid who had water powers. My magical wand had bubbles that could send a tidal wave on a person. I love it when my students teach me. After playing for most of my shift, I realized what it means to someone to be chosen.

As an early childhood educator, I try my hardest to make sure every child receives equal amount of attention. “I choose you” are three words every child; adult, young, elderly human beings crave to hear. It can make or break a person. Do not wait years to tell someone those words.

Embracing Change!

Dear future students,

I cannot wait to see you grow up. I cannot wait to see you experience life to its fullest. It will be exciting to hear your first book that you read all by yourself and see you soak in the joy that comes with your proud accomplishment. I hope you get to know me as the goofy teacher who loves to teach you everything under the sun, the best friend you can go to when you are having a bad day, and the nurturing type that will aid you when you have fallen.

I am so excited to meet all of you. I feel like a little kid on the night before Christmas. I know that we will get to know each other, and I hope I always encourage you to try and move forward.

You will all be my little blessings!

Your new teacher,
Ms. Avonlea

Love is in the air!

As I sit quietly at my computer typing this post, I think about what an amazing week it has been. So much growth has happened at the preschool that I work at. As this week was the last week in January, we talked about the next month and got ready for its grand arrival.

I was chosen to design the bulletin board for February, and I was so proud of the final product. It is always such a love fest in my classroom. I take decorating and crafting seriously in my classroom.

I am all ready for February, and I can't wait for the day of love this month. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, it is funny to see my students talk about "having girlfriends or boyfriends".  They do not even know what this means but it sure is cute to see them interact with one another and develop their emotional self.In particular this week, I had a student telling me that "his brother has his eye on me. And that he thinks I am beautiful." I was so shocked.

My favorite event that happened this week took place during work time on Thursday. Here is the conversation with one of my kindergartener boys'.

Student: "What's the name of this continent?"
Me: "Africa. Want a cool way to remember the name of that continent?"
Student: "Yes, Ms.Avonlea"
Me: "See how on the puzzle Africa is the color yellow, think about how Ms. Avonlea's favorite color is yellow and because you are thinking about me also remember that I want to build a school in Africa one day."
Student: "You mean you are leaving me?"
Me: "Not yet."
Student: "I love you, Ms. Avonlea."
Me: "I love you, too."

It is moments like that which captivates my heart. I love how genuine my students are. God truly blessed me.

Stay tuned for more stories and fun things that I am learning. Later this month, I will post about my favorite Valentine's day and the reason why I LOVE teaching so much.

Be Different, But Be You!

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my new blog In The Classroom.
I am so excited to create this journey of blogging about my daily adventures in my classroom.

This picture was taken earlier this month on my first day back to work after our long Christmas vacation. So far, I have been learning a lot about patience with my students during this new year. A few days after we came back to school again, I received four new students in my classroom. I have four unique students with their own set of talents, strengths and weaknesses.

It has been my prayer that God would teach me the importance, and I believe to see why I received four new students. I have to be patient with each one of them when they do not understand what or how I am teaching them. They are all different, and until I realize that then I will keep becoming frustrated.

I love how God has been teaching me to be patient while learning each of my students' learning styles. I am excited to see where this year of teaching takes me.

In The Classroom, I learn the importance of being patient.
