Blue eyed, blonde beauty styling in a red shirt and dark
blue skirt for her uniform, she was always the kid who was skipped over. She
walked with pride, always smiling as if she had the best day of her life. When
it came to sports, she wasn’t the next Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan. She had
other qualities to offer the world. Kind and patient, she knew that one day
someone would choose her.
It took years and years to pass by until she was chosen. The
best day happened when she walked into work, ready to tackle the day and secretly
waiting to jump back into bed. I am that girl: the chosen one. Four girls and
two boys chose me. They were playing a game that they made up about super heroes.
I was overjoyed to be chosen, so I naturally decided to join in on the game. I
was a mermaid who had water powers. My magical wand had bubbles that could send
a tidal wave on a person. I love it when my students teach me. After playing
for most of my shift, I realized what it means to someone to be chosen.
As an early childhood educator, I try my hardest to make
sure every child receives equal amount of attention. “I choose you” are three
words every child; adult, young, elderly human beings crave to hear. It can
make or break a person. Do not wait years to tell someone those words.
